A lot of people go through a lot of extremes to get extremely white teeth, as it seems to be what people expect a person to have. But how far is too far when it comes to trying to have the perfect teeth? Some people would argue that no length is too far because white teeth is more then just a status symbol, it is a sign of good health and grooming. This is probably why some people will even undergo laser whitening services in order to obtain this goal. But more commonly, people are seeking out teeth bleaching services so that they can have the pearly whites that they have always wanted.

Teeth bleaching is something that should certainly only be done by a professional because if it is not done correctly, the teeth bleaching could cause you a lot of problems. Trying to attempt teeth bleaching at home is never a good thing because if it is not done correctly, you could be causing yourself more harm then good. You may find that your teeth become extra sensitive or that they are no longer as strong as they used to be. This is a result of teeth bleaching gone wrong and it is generally not reversible.

Getting Good Service

It is always important to make sure that when you are going for teeth bleaching services that you are going with a company that can handle your request in a safe manner. Too many times people have trusted their teeth to a dentist that did more damage then progress to their teeth. This has caused people to be in an extreme amount of pain all because they wanted their dentist to perform a proper teeth bleaching service on them. Make sure you know who you are going to before you begin any dental work.

If you have a trusted family dentist then that is the first person you would want to speak with regarding teeth bleaching services. If you do not know of a dentist though then you are going to have to start from scratch to find one. You may want to start with asking your friends and family about which dentist they use and whether or not they would recommend him or her for their teeth bleaching services. It is probably a very good idea to research the dentist online to see if there are any lawsuits or complaints about him or her before going to your first appointment.

When I went to the dentist he put in white fillings to cover the dark brown ugly decay that showed in the front of my mouth when I spoke or smiled. Now I’m noticing a two-tone color on each tooth. The bottom of my teeth are white (where the dentist filled the decay) and the top of the teeth are my natural color ….quite yellow. The white part of the filling does looks nice - but you see the filling line. Is it possible for me to bleach my natural teeth to match the fillings? Has anyone tried BriteSmiles? Has anyone had this happen? Can this be done? Please help. Thanks!

Professional teeth whitening refers to a technique where a whitener is applied to your teeth by your dentist in their dental office. In contrast, at-home teeth whitening is a process where the dental patient takes the bleaching materials home with them and performs their bleaching treatments on their own, unsupervised.

At-home teeth bleaching typically requires that the product user performs whitening treatments each day, over a series of weeks. In comparison, the number of professional teeth bleaching treatments that are performed is typically much fewer in number, possibly even as few as one. It has been suggested that, as a ballpark estimate, one hour of in-office whitening treatment can produce the same whitening effect as one to two weeks of at-home tray-based whitening.

The teeth whitening system that is best for you can depend on factors such as: the amount of time you have available, your temperament, and how much money you have to spend.
Some advantages and disadvantages of at-home teeth whitening:

The dental patient must be capable of performing and complying with the whitening system’s technique and instructions.

The person must have the time and inclination to perform the whitening treatments.

It can take some weeks or even months before the final results are seen with at-home systems.

At-home teeth whitening products usually cost less than professional teeth bleaching treatments.

Some advantages and disadvantages of professional teeth whitening:

The whitening effect is seen immediately.

The whitening is accomplished in just a few appointments (possibly even just one).

Professional teeth whitening usually costs more than at-home teeth whitening products.

Professional teeth whitening:

The procedure.
A) The dentist will evaluate the patient’s pre-whitening treatment tooth shade.
B) The dentist will isolate those teeth being whitened.
C) Eye protection and a bib covering are placed on the patient.
D) The dentist applies the peroxide whitening gel onto the surface of the teeth.
E) Optional: The dentist exposes the tooth whitener to an “activating” light or laser.
F) The tooth whitener is left on the teeth for a prescribed period of time.
G) The whitening treatment is terminated.
H) The dentist will determine the post bleaching shade of the teeth.
I) Optional: The dentist performs a fluoride treatment.
J) Optional: An at-home teeth whitening system is sent home with the patient.

How much can the professional teeth whitening treatments provided by a dentist cost?

Here is a ballpark cost range for what a dentist might charge for a single professional teeth whitening treatment. In some cases more than one treatment might be needed.

$600 to $2000

Try to pick the best dentist, not the best whitening system.
